GSUSA CEO Anna Maria Chavez recently sent a letter introducing herself to U.S. Catholic Bishops and Church officials. In it, she speaks generally of the influence of her childhood “faith”…
Pope Francis, the “Pope of everyday life,” has been on the job just six months. But his message is clear: Depend on God’s mercy. Live God’s mercy. Give God’s mercy.
Many Catholics don’t accept the truth about marriage because they don’t accept—or even know—the truth about sex. It’s time to break silence and tell them the truth.
Are only children–and their parents–better off? Yes, says the author of a new book, One and Only: The Freedom of Having an Only Child and the Joy of Being One. Her warped feminist lens sees parenting as a zero-sum game and each child as a potential threat to a woman’s ‘authentic self.’ She’s couldn’t be more wrong.
Are the Girl Scouts neutral on abortion? Hardly. They recently sponsored a live screening and panel discussion of the feminist documentary, MAKERS, which presents abortion as essential to women’s autonomy. Headliners for the event included Amy Richards, whose “groundbreaking” MAKERS video describes her decision to “get rid of” two of her three triplets through selective reduction. Welcome to the new Girl Scouts.
Boy Scouts in uniform marched in last weekend’s Utah gay pride parade, in spite of official Boy Scouts rules against public advocacy. For these Scouts, the gay pride message trumped the Boy Scout regulations. It’s a sign of things to come. Given the ease with which the ‘out and proud’ Boy Scouts rolled past official Scout policies, I suspect the BSA will continue to give ground…until there’s nothing left on which to stand.
It’s simplistic to suppose that the only issues posed by integrating openly gay youth into scout troops will be issues of kindness and inclusion. It will be tough, if not impossible, for the Church to include gay Scouts without confronting, head-on, the deep divide between Catholic sexual morality and the secular creed of sexual “tolerance.”
